Would it be such a bad idea to try and tune it myself? I figured that i would pretty much be rewiring the whole engine at this point because I've become very interested in a standalone setup. And I don't have a problem with that as long as I can get my hands on some correct wiring schematics. My problem is without ever witnessing someone tuning I don't know what to expect so I'm just confused by it a little. I also want to make sure that whatever I replace my factory ecu with still has the capability to run like gauges and my fan and any creature comforts like that that the stock ecu would handle.

So, i'm still far from being done with this build, but I took the car for a drive last night and this morning. I'm pretty excited because everything i've done so far works and i just couldn't be happier. I know it may not seem like a huge accomplishment but I have over 60 hours in making the turbo fit as well as building an entire exhaust system and getting oil to and from the turbo. I'm probably going to take a little time off now and just get all the rest of the parts i'm going to need since i can drive the car again. The next step will be mounting the intercooler and running the rest of my pipe to the throttle body. After that i suppose i will be trying some injectors to see if they will work in the car and then the real scary part for me......tuning :-X

if you go with a system with enough free maps out there, you can get a map to set a safe tune into the ecu.
but for optimal performance, a dyno tune needs done.

Rabbit I think you have me talked into the megasquirt. I suppose if I have the controller and the software there's really no reason I can't get my guy here to tune it right?

if he can tune any ecu, he should be able to tune megasquirt.
