CAI for 06 Swift+ 1.6 5dr 5spd that just got in Fender Bender

Hi - I am new to the forum. I love this car! Two days ago I got in a fender bender with a Tacoma truck. My hood, passenger headlight assembly, airbox, and body panel were taken out. Funny thing is the car runs fine, the alignment is still fine too!

So its time to uncork my Swift+, starting with a CAI as I need one. I tried the car out with just a sock over the exposed slash cut black pipe inside the airbox. It had more power and less of a power slump in the mid to high 3's. I duct taped half the airbox together to the airfilter for now - seems to work pretty well just sitting in the empty space for now.

So I did search your forums to see what others have been doing and I just want to make sure the CAI definitely will work fine in heavy rain and dusty/sandy/muddy secondary roads if installed in the properly maintained and splash well area? I don't want to go with the SRI setup unless I should in order to protect the filter. I also don't want to mess up the mass flow sensor so if I get one made it should be the same diameter there perhaps. Any suggestions?

Scrap yard had a sliver aveo - sweet - got 3 wiper blades, hood and hinges, headlight and signal light assembly, and the body panel for 300 bucks. There was about 12-15 aveos there - I will be returning.
Next is the frame straightening that will take a lot of time as this is the first time I have done it, but I am optimistic and patient as I don't need the car on the road day to day. I have already practised with the car jack with pretty good success.

There is no mass air flow sensor on an 06. Just a map + IAT. Therefore pipe size doesn't matter as much. Good luck with the rebuild. Sucks you have to do all this work.

CAI will be fine in most of those conditions, as long as you dont submerge the filter.

You will need to clean it probably just as often since they will both pick up silt, etc from the dust in the road. but you will see more of it in the cai filter. where as gravity will drop some of it into the resonator box of the stock system.

I am happy with my cai, i run it year round, and only notice a "power loss" in sub 10 degree weather.. which i would expect the car to have some loss there anyhow. (but it really suck up the gas in that.. back up into the 30s this week and i am back at 31mpg. was getting @ 25-27 in the 5-10 degrees..

Thanks for the input! I wasn't aware of the increased power at lower rpm's with the CAI, I thought it was more at higher rpms. I will just have to deal with not liking the filter location... probably won't care once I take the car out for a test run. Will post some pics in the weeks to come as this all comes together.

Days work went well but I was using the car jack on the framing and accidentally 'grabbed' a wire and pulled it out of the connector - its the piece mounted on the passenger headlight framing.
Was wondering if anyone could tell me which color goes on which side?

As a result of the two cut wires the car is showing a red airbag light and the high beams don't go on when the lever is pushed back, but other than that the test drive went quite well today. In fact I am really impressed with how smooth the engine revs now! And the power gains are clearly there. And this is only using an opened up stock airbox and filter setup - you can see it in the picture.

DONT FIX THAT! (now that i got your attention) you need to unhook the battery and be very careful, thats the airbag sensor, and if the wires touch you will set the airbags off. you have another sensor on the other side in the same place to compare wire colors to.. just dont rip those out.

make sure you disconnect the battery, and wait a while before playing with it. And make absolutely sure you dont touch those wires together.

Holy wooballs was I lucky!! That would have been a very expensive mistake :)
I taped off the wires separately right away, but I am so glad I didn't try to do anything. Weird how losing that sensor cut out the high beams but I tested them before the install and they worked so occams razor says its the sensor.
I hope the connector is just pressure fit for the stripped wires so I don't have to take it apart. Thanks petrified.rabbit!

Got the underdrive pulley, pdf cd, belt, chromeintakes cai, and a shop booking. Also someone tried to break into my car - the passenger lock cylinder is so loose its ready to fall into the door, and the driver side lock cylinder and handle assembly is loose as well like flat screw driver hammer style. Yaay for me it wasn't successful. Now I have to figure out how to tighten up those lock cylinders and handle which means getting into the doors... I guess the perpetrator wouldn't have realized that the passenger door wouldn't open anyway because there is no egress hehe.
Like I said I love this car.. just don't hit puddles doing 80mph :)

^ ur lucky theres alot of aveos in tha scrap yard we dont have any :( i want ur grille btw lol
