car sputters

so 2day we took off 2 my tio's long story short on the way the car acts like its runnin outta gas.
very slow acceleration. we park it i pop the hood and my wife gives it gas and it hesitates a bit. she cuts it off the starts it and it was fine?? but check engine lights on and so we went 2 auto zone and heres what it says,



question on the thermostat. the stock plastic 1 is 1 piece with a inside part. the aluminum 1 i bought is 2 piece and its missin the inside part with a spring? is it suppose 2 have it? do i pry open the plasic 1 and thro it on the aluminum?

ok so i finally threw on the aluminum thermo. at the same time i washed her. i took the ave 2 the mechanic w/ a snap on tools dyalasis thing. $35.00

told me its the Map sensor $60, thermo $5, and the 02 sensor $100.

so i ordered the map and added the thermo.

he erased the check engine light and once the map comes ill add on. went 2 advance auto 2 order the map, and i asked also for the 02 sensor. he says we have universal ones, and i said wait i thought it wouldnt fit on the aveo??

he says he doesnt recommend. i never listen lol but i think ill try the ebay 1 after i add the map sensor.

odds are its only the o2.. they rarely would go all at the same time.

talking about the o2 sensor---I have headers on my Aveo and my light will not go off "engine light" have any one come up with a way to fix tat problem??

did you eliminate the cat?

yes I did. I just took off the o2 dipped it in some fuel injection cleaner and removed the neg wire.

Well there's why you have a check engine light. You killed the o2 and cut it's signal.

It needs to be there and functional for no light.

I cleaned the o2 installed an extension now light is off. for how long???

ok fellas long time no see since i still dont have the internet but heres an update of whats been going on.

the aluminum thermostat had a leak so i hade 2 add some silicone from the auto store, its for valve covers and its heat resitant. works great!! its a blue silicone btw if u wanna kno. leaks are gone.

there was alot of oil in the engine bay so i cleaned it and found out it was coming from the top 2 bolts under the plastic cover one the engine. i also added the silicone. so far so good. the 02 sensor i still have not replaced but i did clean it enough to the point that the check engine light turns off.

the car had stop shuttin off for about 2 months and it started till i fixed these issues. so far its good. still has the 18s on. i went back 2 the stock air filter tho. thats about it. been very busy with the new house i just got.
