I stopped by autozone who scanned my 2009 Aveo5 for a check engine light code.
The code was P0599. Does anyone know what this means?

They should have given you a print out that describes the problem.
I did find this thread though after a quick search:
http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f81/c...e-light-13516/
The thread mentions that he tested sensors and found which one was causing the problem.
It also said he replaced the thermostat.
How do you identify and test the sensors?
How many sensors are involved here?
I want to make sure that I don’t have a sensor problem before I go to the trouble of replacing a thermostat.
I’m still under my power train warranty.
Would I be covered for any of this on the warranty?
Ask it of the GM reps that routinely monitor this forum.I’m still under my power train warranty.
Would I be covered for any of this on the warranty?
Why else are they here, if not to answer such questions?
The coolant temperature sensor is covered under warranty. I've had one replaced.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.
If the car is not running hot it is probably not the thermostat. However, if the temp sensor is bad, you wouldn't know if you were running hot.
Warranty is the fix.
Hello!
We Customer Care Agents are definitely here to assist and direct you but we are not able, nor equipped to make any specific or conclusive diagnosis over the internet as to why a component failed or if it is covered under warranty. It is for this reason that we rely heavily on the service staff at our dealers to provide our customers with any type of mechanical diagnosis.
I would suggest that you take your Aveo to a Chevrolet dealer. A diagnosis is an important part in determining the cause of the code/light and nature of the concern. It also helps to determine the estimated cost of repairs or warranty coverage. Once a proper diagnosis has been conducted by a GM dealership you can decide how you want to proceed. I hope this is helpful.

I’m not sure what to do here.
I spoke with the dealer and they said the thermostat wouldbe covered by warranty however the two sensors would not.
If they diagnose one of the sensors as bad, I will immediately owe them a $100 diagnosis fee. If I let them fix it, they will charge mesomewhere around $50 for one sensor and around $30 for the other sensor. On topof that, they will charge me a $100 per hour fee to do the work.
If I knew how to test the sensors for proper operation andfound them to be good, I would not hesitate to take the car to the dealerbecause at that point I will know the issue to be the thermostat for which Iwould be covered by warranty.
If anyone can tell me how to accurately locate and test thesensors, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Ok.... if the sensor isn't warrantied, then I would just buy a new one a change it myself. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where it is, but with a new one in hand, you can locate the old one very easily. Does anyone have a diagram with the location of the coolant sensor?

Welcome to the game of... *Dancing With The Dealers*
GM Customer service will invite you to the 'dance'. And then you won't know what to do. That's where you are at this stage.
If the car is our of warranty either a) complain to GM relentlessly if you are skilled at the game of effective complaint, until they satisfy you or, b) diagnose and fix it yourself or, c) take it to an honest, independent shop and pay for the repair. And then there is the sad choice of d) dancing with the dealer and hoping you will somehow come out ahead. Not recommended. You won't beat them at their game. Car dealers are masters at playing the public for suckers. They are playing you already.
BTW, from what you said, the only thing the dealer offered to do under warranty is to change the thermostat. That's a straightforward job that most DIY'ers can manage, so it sounds like they are really trying to play you. That's to be expected.
Read your warranty and question authority. Why is the thermostat covered, but not the sensors??? Pursue that question persistently and you might get GM to authorize the entire repair.
