      Coil Pack?

Hi, my 2004 Chevy aveo is misfiring. You can feel the "clunk" when it misses. Ive replaced the plugs with ngk gpower platinum alloy plugs and new duralast wires. I also recently changed my valve cover gasket due to the oil leaks. Is there any low tech way to diagnose my coil pack? Could the coil pack be going bad or is it something more?

You can do basic resistance testing of the coil pack with a multi-meter. Also, someone here (Rabbit IIRC) had problems with non-copper plugs and had to replace them with copper.

Alright, its been a while, ive just been letting the car sit. Anyway i went and changed the plugs to autolite coppers and something i noticed about the G powers was that the tips were white. Could my engine be running lean? The misfire didnt go away as the drive to my friends shop 10 mins away was brutal with the copper plugs. Could my Injectors be clogged or is my fuel filter dirty. My fuel filter has never been changed (147k)

Misfire can be caused by somewhere around 50 things, once all of the different wires and connectors are thrown into the mix. So whenever you ask 'could it be' something, the answer is going to be 'yes', until that part is ruled out either via testing or replacement.

You can get suggestions of possibilities from forums like this, and other online sites. But that's like playing darts blindfolded - who knows how many throws before a lucky one hits the mark. The best approach (by far) is systematic testing, using tools such as a multi meter and OBD realtime reader. The later tool will tell you if it's running lean, and also quite a bit more as well.

If you don't want to do that, then the only DIY alternative is to continue hanging on parts, checking vacuum tubes, wires and connectors until you stumble on the problem. Your call which way to go.

There are two parts to science 1) Measure things 2) Write that measurement down Everything after that is Hypothetical

      HAR HAR HAR

If you have a smart phone, you can buy an ODBII blutooth connector for about 12 bucks
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

I finally figured out that it was my coil pack, the back part of it cracked off when I pulled it off and I think it was the original because it had the Daewoo sloth on it and it rust welded itself to the bracket 150k miles and second engine, replaced around 70- 75k

Thanks for letting us know what happen. Man I am so OBNOXIOUS. But then again science RULES!
When I pulled my coil pack in replacing my head, I had a helluva time getting it off and cleaning off the rust. I hope your car is running good. Did you get an ODBII reader?

I didn't get an obd reader yet but I borrowed a snap on modus from school. The misfire was also causing a transaxle code that went away after I ran it for a while with the new coil
