Cold Air Intake installation for 07 Barina

I plan on getting a cold air intake, and depending where and who i buy it from, could cost anywhere from $100-300.

Now there is a place here in Adelaide called KPM Motorsport who say they will fit and dynotest, and with the dynotest, will get more power out of the intake than just installing it.

Is this a load of crap or actually true? How much more power and fuel economy will I get if I just do it myself?

It depends on what the dyno test involved. If they were going to make adjustments like size and length of the intake, and moving the location of the sensors to improve performance, then the dyno test is completely worth it. If they are just testing it before and after to show the improvement the intake provides, thats good too, if you want to know. If they are just doing to it show a "final" output that otherwise doesn't have a comparison, and your not interested in knowing. Then its not really worth it.

I've just read on their site that all it shows is improvement, just from installing it. Then they can custom tune the engine to get the most out of it.

But still, they charge $490 just for supply, then $690 for supply, fitting and dyno testing.

Here's their site (directly to intake systems for Holden's), go to the second section down, first one is just for VE Commodores.

Just buy a simple CAI and install it yourself. It is easy, and can be done for less than $100 including a somewhat ram air style setup. Time on the dyno will do nothing for you. A CAI is a simple enough mod that adjusting it will do almost nothing and certainly would not be worth the dyno time. A dyno tune is certainly worth it, but unless you have a tuning system for your car the tuners at the shop wont be able to do anything for you.

Thats the brand most of use are running. For $130 bucks though I would see if you can find a local muffler shop for a few custom bends then get a filter and couplers.. I can't see this costing more than $50-60. Although I do not know your countries costs.

What difference will be made if I just replace the stock standard filter with a K&N Cone Filter? Like what it looks like serega12 did I can get the filter for $119AU

Oh, I've also installed a HiClone.

Your prices seem highly inflated, what is the exchange rate?

You will have a slight difference with the k&n, but the filter is not the most restrictive part of the intake. The most restrictive part of the intake is the muffler in the fender well. The pipe has a Y where the air surges past itself for noise cancel that is only @1.5 inches (37mm?)

There is a big box in your passenger fender well that can be accessed through the panel in front of your wheel. This box connects to the airbox under your hood. Open that panel, unbolt the box, then throw the box in the corner of your garage for the next six years. You'll see a bit more power, and suffer a bit more intake noise.
