Re: command start... anyone put one in?.
Clint,
I don't see that the RS you bought is for a manual transmission. It will usually state that it is for manual, otherwise you will not be able to put it in ready mode and it would be a dangerous install. Also are you sure you need a transponder bypass? My 08 hatch did not have a transponder key
Re: command start... anyone put one in?.
I checked it out on Compustar.org http://www.compustar.com/main.htm , it says it is compatible. As for the transponder I guess I'll just have to wait and see, the info I got for a few of the local stereo shops was that it needed one, if I do not need it it will be up for sale I guess.
I'm not too worried.
I do have a big favor to ask though, if it's possible I'd like to see pictures of our members remote start installs, I'd like to see where everything is wired from.
If the bypass isn't needed I'll use the money to upgrade it to a two way starter!, gotta love Compustar!.
Re: command start... anyone put one in?.
Ignition Harness, is on the left of the steering whell column. The Bypass has to be installed on the transponder module, under the ignition. Lock and Unlock feature is located right between the handbrake and the shifter...you have to get the center console out to get to it....nothing hard.
Re: command start... anyone put one in?.
Great!, thanks. I plan on posting pics of the install.
Re: remote start... anyone put one in?.
Need help! I need to know exactly which wires are used to flash teh park lights, I have my relays ready to go but I have 3 different wiring diagrams telling me 3 different colors of wires to use. I'm hopeing to tap into them at the plug on the drivers side kick but I need to know if it's the thicker purple wire and thicker brown or skinny purple and brown/white, they tell me to use the purple wire at he kick but theirs 3 of them...
other than that it's all going well, I'm taking lots of pics along the way. :)
Re: command start... anyone put one in?.
Just test the wires with a volt meter before you tap them. You should ALWAYS check a wire before you tap. I think it is a + on the brown and purple so ground on end of a meter and probe the wires with the other end with the parking lights on, then off to verify the voltage change. By the way always use a volt/ohm meter to probe, not a test light!
So far so good...but tired.
So I was up till 3am last night wiring. I can't thank you all enough for all this great information, I'm not kidding...Thanks you.
So I took some progression pictures along the way.
I'm quite proud of myself for throwing myself into this, gets me out of my comfort zone and helps me learn new things.
So here's the spaghetti.

And where I left it last night. All I have left (hopefully) is to solder in the tach wire and mount the hood pin, and of course a serious tidy of all the wires and brain.

Atleast now we can all see what it looks like taken apart.
I unbolted and pulled out the fusebox for accessability (2 nuts, easy), and removed all the pannels around the steering wheel and under it just so I could have the best view possible, and of course the drivers seat (also easy).
Make sure you have your 10mm wrench (for dash pannels) and 12mm socket (for the 4 seat bolts), all your wiring tools and alot of patience.

When you are done making connections, I would wrap your harnesses and wires with good quality electrical tape and maybe some wire loom. That will give it a factory look, no one will be able to tell just by looking under the dash..
