I recently bought a scan gauge, and I look at the trip information for the day when I get home. It said the coolant reached 222 degrees Fahrenheit today. I didn't even go above 2700 RPM. Is that temperature something to worry about?

222 seems high. I'd make sure it wasn't just a fluke though.
My Scangauge said my coolant temperature reached 220 today. Its operating temperature says 210.
The temp gauge does not move from the center even though it is so hot.
It has always been this way though. The heater, especially on recirculation, gets hot enough to burn you.
I watch the gauge on a Cobalt on hot summer days as student drivers sit idling, and do repeated parallel parks..the temp spikes at 221 in that car before the fans turn on, and thats pretty usual. So I'd say your temps are ok. New motors are made to run hot for emissions.
