craankshaft bearing spun - new mwmber

Hi , I am a new member, looks like a lot of knowledge on this site. I was reading here last week and there was a good discription of timing belt change. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have a 07 Aveo with 140k on the clock which I just put a new oil pump on , at that time I also put a new rod bearing on the rod closest to the pump . after about 50 miles of driving it has spun the bearring . I messured the journal dia for all four rods and the other three messure 1.693in whick looks to be in spec. but the journal dia closest to the oil pump ( pass side) is .040" smaller and the rod cap looks to been worn quite a bit. my question is can I just buy a new cap and put on a .040" undersize bearring or does the rod and cap need to replaced as a pair?

      thanks

USUALLY you would replace them as a matched pair. But you could replace just the cap as a damaged part if and only if it specs out. Typically the caps are numbered and spend their "life" with the rods.

did you properly lubricate the bearing when you put in it? that might have been what spun it, A good assembly lube, or oil soaking of putting together quickly. I think they recommend different "break in" methods as well.

I did soak them in oil before installing them. What type of lube should be used
