Cruise Control addition

Before I bought this vehicle (2009 Aveo hatchback), I read that since the throttle is fully electronic, that there is no actual cruise control module. It would seem that all that is required for cruise control is the addition of the switches to the steering wheel.

Has anybody accomplished this with no issues? I hate to pay the dealer several hundred dollars to pop off a piece of plastic and pop a new one in place, while hooking up 2 wires. I can do that myself. I'd like to just buy the switch, but am concerned about:

• Will it work?
  Will it disengage when the clutch is pushed in?
  Will it disengage when the brake is pushed in?
  Will it disengage if it pops out of gear?

i see they mention the mod only applies for 2006+
do you know if there's any way to make such a mod on a 2004 or is this just a crazy idea?

04-05 isn't drive by wire. A traditional cruise control kit will need to be used on these years.

Doax is 100% correct, the cruise mod is only proven on dbw e-tecII cars.

The 09 needs spliced in at a different spot in the harness, but all the necessities are there. the 09 switch is also different and more expensive than the earlier from what has been posted.

Hmm... just read through the whole thread. It sounds like the price of the mod went up... Sounds like something I'd like to try... Did anyone get a dealer quote for the whole install? I'm sure it's way more than what it would cost me to do it myself, but that depends on how much labor they will try to charge me for.

the big difference on what the install is the way these guys did it and the way the dealer would do it is the dealer would buy a clockspring and install the switch in the steering wheel. i think the clockspring is $120? iirc. plus you will have 2-3 hours for the install.

thats only if you can convince the dealer to install just the switch and not force you to buy the cruise kit.

Hmm... I wonder if they would sell me the cruise kit. Then I could install it myself. :D
