Yo! Sorry I've neglected to update here... got REALLY busy with other business, and put car mods on hold for a bit! I spent the last couple days playing with another setup... I got the GAProjects guide to a DIY supercharger... concept similar to the Thomas Knight one (that seems to work, but costs 2 grand) Before fabricating the whole thing, I borrowed some more ideas; mainly, the fact that running double the voltage through a fan motor doubles (or at least significantly increases) the speed.
So, I learned the basics of electricity (GAProjects supercharger guide came with a 12 page "basics of electricity" e-book-thingy. I took the fan, made my own battery pack out of PVC pipe, put a switch, that along with the battery pack, is now in the car. 4-D batteries instead of 2 make for 6 volts instead of 3... (working up to 24, maybe 36. ; ) The little fan would now spin itself on the floor from the initial torque. Still not a lot of power, but efficiently placed with the same bowl setup, but STRAIGHT on the end of the filter... a smaller filter, so that the forced air has less chance to escape out the sides. The results: Better than expected, again!
Is it a BAD thing when your rpm gauge skips? I always watch my rpms, and have never seen it skip before. I had a bunch of stuff to do, and didn't get a chance to test it a lot after getting it on today; the best I could do was an area where it was 50 mph between all my other stops, but in this ONE chance I had to GUN it, I probably went from 35 to 50+ in a WAY SHORT time, (maybe 1.5 seconds? seemed twice as fast as before). And I watched as my rpm gauge jumped like 500 rpms. ? What's up with that? I know the airflow is increased-basically it simulates a high-speed RAM scoop at low speeds.
i have just been into car tuning for about a year, so I'm still a newbie. BUT!
I can't wait to take this on some of the 60 & 75 mph highways for further testing!
Oh, and Daug: That's where the scoop is; the concept I was thinking about but abandoned was kinda like getting 2 scoops into the same area-the filter.
And Josh: About $30.
Picture coming up...
