Unless you are running a high hp car that needs race gas all the time, the conversion is not worth it at all.
E85 will also cause detremental effects to your fuel system if it was not designed for it. The ethanol will eat away at gaskets fuel lines, and seals that are not made for E85. When E10 was introduced as a standard, it wreaked havoc in the marine industry. Many older boats actually had tanks made from fiberglass that delaminated and leakedand caught fire. Many more people had problems with carb. gaskets deteriorating, fuel lines breaking down, etc. Ethanol also absorbs moisture from the air, causing water problems. also the shelf life of ethanol is very short, this is probably not a problem for most as your car doesn't sit for months at a time, but it is a problem in the marine industry. so that said, I would not run it in my car.....
Why are they putting this stuff in gas at all???Originally Posted by AveoRob
Less gasoline/gallon means less gasoline needs to be imported.
It really defeats the purpose though because it takes more fuel to produce it than what is made. Ex: Farm tractors, water pumps, harvesters, boilers all use petroleum or energy that is created with petroleum. Only a portion of the corn turns into ethanol. And in the end the ethanol still has to be mixed with gasoline to work in engines.
Just a waste of corn, I'd say. Farmers lobby for it, so they can maintain a high corn price, but I think that's the only true reason.
Hydrogen will be a much more effective fuel.
i don't think we should use food as fuel, if there are still people in this world going hungry...
but that is just me, and i'm not typically an activist, or save the planet person. but there are already better solutions out there, so why continue to take food to make gas (especially with todays problems, with families going to food banks in record numbers), it just doesnt make sense.
The corn they use is not up to human consumption standards.
Unless you get into an accident with it and overcome the incredible high cost of productionOriginally Posted by MetroAveo
i think people who are starving would, and in other countries have lower standard than the US FDA..Originally Posted by aveodude
