I'm thinking all these mods are kind of pointless, when my grand prix dies I'm putting the 3.8 sc into my aveo

God forbid, If I ever total my cobalt, I'd buy it back to put the motor into an Aveo or something.
I'd have to buy another aveo, but the power to weight ratio should be much better...

When I was younger I played with swaps, although I haven't ruled out a 1.8, all else seems too involved, I have a lot of other priorities, but at Times I do feel a LSJ/LNF or even a 1.4 would be the best. Ive been emailing auto salvage yards in England for something special, but they are not responding, if they do I will order something I haven't seen stateside yet. I just don't want to be a dreamer, but when it comes to euro parts/engines our $ isn't good enough. Camo u have a point, but I enjoy my Aveo - its different and difficult at the same time...and yes any mods to a car cost $ and yield little return when its time for resale
The only reason I would swap is when that engine dies and I wanna upgrade my DD. If you do all these mods and can't even make 200whp don't waste your money.
200 hp in a 2000 lb car is better than 400 hp in a 4000 lb car.
Ill get more specific. HP does not mean everything, gearing matters too. BUT:
The aveo is 2100-2500 lbs. 426 hp Camaro is 3908lbs, 435hp Mustang 3705lbs, 375 hp challenger is 4082 lbs.
So, simplified:
Weight to hp.. Camaro is 9.17 lbs per hp. Mustang is 8.5 lbs per hp. Challenger is 10.88 lbs per hp.
Gearing aside, that means the Aveo only needs @ 194 hp to beat the Challenger (worst) and @ 260 hp to be the mustang (best of three).

as stated above its all about power to weight. My aveo is fun to drive now, with 150-175 at the wheels would be a blast, remember this is a commuting street car. I usually set my cars up for flat torque curves and usable power. I actually prefer a 3000-5000 sweet spot, over a redlining dyno queen, but this N/A and VVT is all new to me, and yes OBD2 sux
Keep in mind i said Simplified..
A RWD car is very different from a FWD. Gearing matters.
That said, I don't know if the AVEO is worth it, its still a heavy car. And dropping a V8 or other engine in it changes the weight.
My rabbit was originally just under 1700lbs from the factory, i had it down to about 1550. i am not sure what my finished future set up on it will be. But I had almost 200 hp with the engine swap, and it handled great. Still fwd at that time though. I could outrun quite a few v8 muscle cars in that thing, and still be able to turn (autoX).
Its not unproven, its common for the newer drivetrains to be stuck in the older (lighter) platform cars and for them to then be faster than the cars they came out of.. There is a balance of loss of safety, and handling. But it is all about less weight = more speed. The comparison makes more sense when you don't change everything, but just hp to weight, it is true. Look at honda swaps. Now it would be more sense to not compare the aveo with 200 hp to a mustang or any rwd car. But if you could get a $1000 aveo with a blown engine, drop in a 1.4t six speed swap and tune it to 200hp, you would have a sub $5000 car that would most likely beat a cobalt ss, vw gti, etc that cost 3-4X the money.
I am all about that.
