Ok, Last summer I replaced the timing belt and have 10k on that repair. 07 aveo 5 LS automatic
Last week I lost spark in cylinder 2 and 3, I limped the 1/4 mile home at 10 mph grabbed The Mrs's car and went to the parts store. It appears that the valve cover gasket started leaking oil into the plug wells and that shorted out the previous ignition coil pack.
I replaced the valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, and ignition coil. Cleaned up the oil from the wells and it was running great for about a week. On the drive home, I developed a flashing CEL Flashing HOLD and I lost power.
I immediately pulled over to the side of the road, Kept the car in drive and brake torqued to see if it was still missing.. The engine appeared to be running properly so i pulled the positive cable to reset the computer and drove home with no incident. My normal commute is about 70 miles 1 way so I was a bit out from a code reader. I now have a ODB2 scanner running shotgun so I should be able to pull a code if it happens again. but I don't want to get stuck... Unfortunately the code reader i have cannot tell the computer to relearn the crank position.
So my long winded question is this.
Do I have a suspect ignition coil. It tests good with a multimeter,
Do I need a Crank sensor?
A cam sensor?
A road flare and a gallon of gasoline?
I really just need some direction as I cant afford to get this fixed at a dealer. And I am thinking that even if I do the other 2 sensors I will need a dealer with a tech 2 to relearn the computer on this thing.
Thanks
