Engine revs with clutch in but normal if you shift to neutral and let clutch out

Happened today in town at the stop lights. Wife said she would put shift to neutral and release petal and ran perfect. What do I check? Thanks LB

my 05 does that when it gets to about -15C outside, i think its like an elevated idle to help warm that big hunk of iron under the hood,did she mention how high it reved?? although i have never had a problem starting in the winter even when it hit -52 last year.
