its been done, but doesnt mean you could do it.. its about as hard a swap as many.. not like a direct swap in a honda or vw...
whats the best direct swap
for a 2011, its the 1.8l out of the cruze and astra. Cheap, bolts in uses the same wiring and maybe even the same ecu (interchange on ecu is "mixed" which is other good news). but can be done for as little as $1000 if you do it yourself. And its a easy 140hp. With a $300 trifecta chip, it should reach 150? hp.. if you also do the muffler, cai, and light weight pulley youll see more still. Thats @ $2000 for potentially 60 more hp.
Hello Guys, first time posting on forum, I have 2005 Chavey Aveo LT hatchback.. wonderful so far no major issue ...
it has 92K KMs about 57K miles...
Other day while stop at red light, idler (plastic) pulley broke, as soon as I started driving.... engine made grinding noise and drove 200 meters (half block) to gas station... car started twice while park and on third attempt engine didnt start... I tow the car home and found broken pulley parts under the car...
What I read online and on this block that my engine is probably gone, either need to rebuild engine or replace.
It is very hard to find 2005 engine, i found one 2006 engine. Can 2006 engine be swap in to 2005 Aveo... only Diff i found on engine type is 2005 engine is 1.6L DOHC I-4 and 2006 is 1.6L DOHC I-4 (L91)...
Any advise, i wont be doing the job my self but want to make sure my mechanic can do the swap with 2006 engine. As i have to order online from
2006 Chevrolet Aveo Used Engine - Auto Parts FairŪ
Thanks
it will be direct swap from 2004-2006 in 2007 they changed couple things(intake, throttle control...) but your fine. i saw lots of 2004-2006 on internet in usa for 500-900 usd.
Thanks Charlieb for response, just to confirm... what i been reading or looking at engines at online site... says 2004-2005 are exact same and 2006-2008 are same.. The diff b/w 2004-2005 and 2006-2008 are few things... is that correct... there is a engine available for 2007 with 30K miles for $600.... if it will work with my 2005 I will get it... also there is an engine available for 2006 for $600 that as 100K miles...
My mechanic is charging me $500 labor for exact fit engine and $600 if it required few parts swaping from old engine.. is this realistic price ? I am in canada vancouver... i can get engine from US as well...
Yea my mechanic going check head/valves as well.. but labor cost and head re-fixing costing me about $1000 as well...
you are right timing belt job should have been done..
actually timing belt is not broken, the plastic idler pulley broke...
