Look through other threads (I hope you've already searched for them), it's a lot easier to swap in a Daewoo/Opel made engine since the engine mounts will be the same.
Opel/vauxhall c20xe or c20let would be 10000x better than a vtec.
2l 16valve, how much would either one cost imported to US? I would probably need the ECU and everything...
C20GET is the same, but SOHC instead of the DOHC, made 165HP and can be found in Pontiac Sunbirds. Will pretty much just drop in... However finding one, let alone in good condition, is the hard part.Quote:

i have a few friend that go scouring the european/uk markets for parts and bring over a trailer load of rare euro parts once/twice/few times a year.. maybe i will look into costs of a vsxr engine swap..

My friend Rob owns a yellow ZO6, and god it’s fast. It’s the closed I’ve ever come to driving a true race car.
I know my Aveo will never be anything like a Vet. and I'd be nuts to want to put that kind of money into a car that only costed me $10,000 new. I have my BMW R60/7 for those days I want to fly or I'll just take my friend Vet out. I love my Aveo for what it is and yes I have put money into it, but the engine will stay the way it is.
i just want to mod the engine a bit, ntohing too extreme though
Adding a few boltons is cool, but to wripe out a good motor just for a few HP it's not worth it for the Aveo. Ok, if your engine is shot and your going to replace it, then why not put a better engine in. My Honda buddy has done so many engine swaps and up grades, there's thousands invested in his car and if he sells it he'll get 4 to 5 grand if he's lucky.
I'm with larsbud on this one. Unless my engine is shot I'm not planning on replacing it for now.
hey ima sound like a mupet, but i dont know too much about engine swapping as ive never done or tried anything on that side of the scale.
is the c20xe reallly that good for the kalos/aveo. i currently have a kalos and after all my exterior and interior mods set to finish around september latest i obv wana go faster.
so my question is that will the c20xe ORR the x20xe jus slot in to the original engine mounts in the kalos 04? and will i need a new gear box. my current gear box in my kalos is an auto and its gone..
im a bit of a... silly driver tried to drift a bit too much and shifting it in to nutrl to get the revs up kindaaa didnt help..
which is beter also out of the available engines the SLOT in to the original mounts without any fab. seen a few projects that people have just sloted in engines...
ive been quoted around £1,200+vat GBP for a reconditioned gear box and 2 years warrenty.. so rather than pay that id prefer to put a bit on top.. convert to manul with the c20xe engine and suitable MANUAL gear box..
which i think would b MUCH more cost efficnt as i was gona spend around 2k just on engine upgrades. cams, under drive pulley, new valvs, the lot.. this way i can just turbo the c20xe.. right..? and do those mods on it :D

Maybe they can make you a deal on a Z20LEH =P~ Astra VXR I know it's almost 6,000 of your money, but that's a BAND NEW engine there... 8) And that includes labor, parts, and installation. Not a bad deal IMO.

which ermm is almost 3 times the bhp my kalos had in the begining!! LOOL well its actually like 2 and a half times more.. BUT STILL!!!

Because you're a lot closer to get this - money wise and distance wise - than me. (it will cost me more money because of the shipping).
And mind that it won't be the same car anymore... like you said... it will be three times the power... So it won't be in the same class as your stock calos by far... with as much lighter you will be running, if you install that engine you'll be surprising some cars... skylines included. 8)

butt even so il be spending alot of money finishing off the car (rims-entire car respray-GEARBOX!). so i wont exactly have 6k for the swap and im sure it would cost more as i dont think the kalos auto gear box would even come neaar to being able to handle that power... so id more than likly need the gearbox off a astra vxr or something that can handle it at least.. again more research in to gearbox that can handl the power and also jus slip right in with out fabs if possible to save time and money.
anddd worst of all my gear box is actually kaput.. so i need to fork out about 1200+ vat for a reconditioned gear box.. and then that would go down the drain and be useless as ima end up doing this swap..

IMO, if the car is drivable, I say wait with the transmission repair/swap until you know what you're doing (if anything) with the engine swap. That way you'll ber outing money towards the transmission you'll be keeping.
neop not drivabl at all. the gear box wont catch gears at all. it just keeps slipping. :(
so i have to have a gearbox in there without a doubt..
1 idea might be to actually get the gearbox off the vxr and put that on to my car and then go and do the engine swap at a later date... if that is possible.. that way im "buying in advanced" and i can get a manual conversion done at the same time.. cos theres no wayy ima have a 240bhp engine with a auto LOL not enough fun for me.. i ripped a 1.4 gearbox and im not planning to do it again.. cos i knoww ima wana drift and slide about any chance i get... OUUUWWW im so exxcited LOL and i havent evn done it.. but im gona b looking around 6months to a year possibly in my current state to get that engine for 6k, unless i get a job. as all im doing is a bit of tradding. hmm
naa you know what 100% ima get the engine done.. dont know if il do it with courtneys tho. if i find the same engine somewere cheap and low mileage and i hear its a direct bolt in with no mount issues.. IM GOING FOR IT..
i found a c20xe for about 2k the other day on ebay heard thats a straight bolt up :\
but i want something a bit cleaner and newer ie in terms of mileage... as the only reason i kept my kalos after doing the gerbox in was its milage. only done around 22,000 miles and weve had it from showroom floor since 2004.
ahh well all food for thought but defo engine swap coming as i fink ive done to many other mods to just let her be and then il hold of the gt500 for abit longer... had insurance quotes of £7,500 anyway LOL!
Insurance quotes per year???? Or what's that number for? And I'm guessing that's for gt500, because it sounds like way too much for the Kalos...

id rather have the kalos with the vxr engine for now anyway im still young and wish to xperimnt more on a cheaper car rather than mess up a gt500 LOL !
