      Engine Top End

As a couple of you know, I had my timing belt slip off. Well I finally got it back home and after some time I got into it yesterday to check the timing and compression.

I reset the timing (crank pointed to bottom and cams pointed to each other). No start. I then checked the compression in cylinder one and four. No pressure. So pretty much I think I have issues (duh!). I can move the engine by hand I don't feel any jamming. So I think I might be able to do a head job and hopefully my pistons are ok. If not I can replace it.

So before I go down this path I need advice on the best way to proceed.

      1) should I pull the engine entirely ( I would replace the clutch)
      2) Or work with in the car

My biggest concern is removing the exhaust header. The bolts and nuts are pretty much rusted shut. Once I get into that I bet those bolts are going to snap.

So guys who have done this job, advice? I should be able to pull the top end by removing the exhaust, intake headers.

I'd price out parts. Are you going to replace the head, or just the bent valves? How much is a salvage yard engine? If its only $300, swapping it may be easier than doing a head job. It'll certainly take more time.

have not priced anything yet. I am leery of used engines as you don't know and I have been burned on so-called mileage numbers before. I would rather pull the head and take to a shop. I don't have a valve tool.

      Don't break anything?

Nah, but a good one is to take lots of pics along the way unless you're comfortable with the work.

Then, share the pics with us!

You know both will happen! I am sure there is a server somewhere under duress from all my pictures. Looking forward to that part, as several people here have busted the head off and we have no pictures.

Intake. There is a lot of stuff in the way and this turned out to be a major job. I still did not get it finished as there are four more bolts that I could only access from the back side.

This valve controls the water going into the engine cooling system. Check your hoses

Pulled off the intake hose. It's broken. Maybe time for a custom cold air intake.
