Its the crankshaft accessory pulley. All the way on the passenger side end of the engine.

Oh ok so thats the puley you have to access from the passenger wheel wall?
Yup.
And the best thing is that we already have a DIY for it if you follow the timing belt change tut.
Yeah, installation is very easy. The only pain in the butt is that the pulley bolt is torqued on pretty hard.
So the best time to change this then is when you're doing a timing belt? How hard would it be to just change this out...
edit, iphone put me in the wrong topic, thought this was the metal thermostat one..
damn 3" screen navigation..
The best time to install the pulley is right away! :) As I said, its very easy. Basically:Quote:

The only difficult part here is getting the crankshaft pulley bolt on and off. And, now even looking at the specs its not that bad. It is supposed to be torqued to 70 ft/lbs + 30 degrees then plus another 15 degrees. Lug nuts for wheels are generally tightened the same amount.
i need to change my belts out anyways, this would be easy to do while its apart in the shop
So is the accessory belt the same as the serpentine belt? kinda confused cus never heard accessory belt before
yes they are the same, the alt, power steering, ac are all "accessories."
the gatorback belt i bought is also called a accessory belt, i perfer serpentine belt though, ends up confusing people #-oQuote:

We're not sure yet. Rabbit will hopefully help us compare the two stock pulleys.
i need to drive my car two more days, then it will get pulled apart.

Any update on the pulley Rabbit?
i had to put my car back together so my family could drive it while they were in from florida. (my brother had a baby, i had no idea they were coming and planning to stay with me or drive my cars)...
So i didn't get it apart as far as the pulley the first time. And now i need to tear it down again. I also took all the suspension pieces to return it to the stock setup for them to drive..
Doh, okay. Any idea when you'll get to measure it?
later this week, as soon as the rain stops..
Just wondering if there has been any update on this? not tryin to revive dead threads sorry.. ill leave that job to hunter and serega lol jk
Nah, its not dead. I've just been lazy getting the Aveo working properly. As it is right now my Aveo won't even idle down under 1k rpm since its always running in open loop mode.
i dont bring back dead threads :x
Not to throw a wrench into any plans here...but I already have an underdrive pulley for the 1st generation Aveo, I own the oringal prototype underdrive pulley developed by 360Dynamics LLC from about 5 years ago and occasionally I will offer copies for sale, there just hasnt been enough demand to keep it in regular production but if enough people are interested and have the money actually available I can put out a batch, I'd like to have at least 5 per batch, depending on the price of materials now I'd sell them for about $150 shipped and with the new belt. I did dyno the pulley as well, and with the mods that were on the aveo at the time there was a 4whp gain I believe, I think dyno results/charts are posted on one of these Aveo sites somewhere
I read about your pulley but couldn't find any dyno charts, pics, or even if you ever sold any. Its good to know it all went through.
4whp is a pretty decent gain from a single simple mod. Nice job. :D Care to post up any old pics you got?

I'll see if I still have the dyno printout somewhere at home to take a pic and post up again
im in son
btw when would you have them made by, is there a price for just one :P
I dont know if or when I'll start making them again, if they are bought individually of course the price will be more but I can't give you a quote right now because I don't know material prices, it'd take about a week to get one done, if I do decide to start this again it won't be before August, right now powder coating will not be available because the guy I used is no longer doing it
august eh, sounds good, group buy time!
Im in too for the group buy it gives me enough time to rack up some more mileage to get closer to the 60k mark for my timing belt change. might as well do it at the same time. less hassel that way
**** you have to change the timing belt at 60k My 2007 has 92k on the stocker. I did change my serpetine at 87k and that was trashed. I have xiagarys crank pulley and along with power I get like 2-3 mpg increase during normal driving. The stock crank pulley is so heavy. Its easy to remove. I used a regular socket wrench and socket along with a 2 foot metal pipe that I slipped over the handle of the socket wrench in the 12 o clock spot posistion and rested the pipe against the motor mount. I then cranked the car as if I were to start it for like a split second not long enough to start the car and that got the bolt off. The pulley is probably one of my favorite mods I have done with my car along with the 225 pounds of weight reduction.
Got a divorce and married a model? =D> I'm so rottenQuote:

oh, cool... bunch of lines... how bout a legend or an explanation? I take it the one above the rest of them (blue one or something) is the one with the pulley?
Oh sorry, lolQuote:

The best thing I liked about the pulley actually wasn't the power gains, it was the fact that it tightened up the steering some, I always thought the Aveo's steering was a little loose for my taste
