Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
that sounds wierd mine does not do that at all. it can be two things.... the flex pipe has broken loose inside and is ratlling due to higher vibration at higher rpms OR the catalitic converter the baffalls or the honeycomb assembly inside has became loose and rattles due to higher vibration or the shell and or heat gaurds of the cat became loose.. these two things are not normal and are not part of the design... Also, there could be a loose bracket brace something that could cause this too... but those are the 3 things i can think of
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
hey just an idea. on my 04 sedan there is a donut shaped metal shield around the flex pipe. i'm not sure what its function is, but mine broke loose and made this tinny rattling sound. i cut it off with metal shears.
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
I am also having that same sound.. and its happens almost always when i first start my car up and go to drive.. Its either the pipe or a heat shield, Imm gonna have the flex pip redone so ill let you know if it goes away after tajt
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
i had a rattle once as well. turned out one of the resonators on my exhaust had gone bad and the "junk" inside had come loose. cut out resonator-problem solved. it could be so many different things tho...

Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
Well after 2 trips to the dealer and alot of "I cant hear it can you come in and point it out to us" by the mechanics it is finally fixed turned out to be the piece of flex pipe underneath the motor I think they cut it out and put a new piece in :P
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
it hapened to me too. i got a new flex pipe !
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
yep me two ( o i mean too) i got one under waranty
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
I got the run around from the dealer on this one. They said it would have to get worse before they would do anything about it.

u can thank a slowing economy for that one. waitin for things to become serious....uh it will cost more money as it gets serious. thats the only downside to that process. dumbasses.(dealerships)
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
i just got a flexpipe from a saturn and stuck it on...
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
It could just be a loose flange bolt on your exhaust?

It could be just about anything from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. Anything that has a screw/bolt and is not secured properly could be causing something to rattle. I think the best method to hunt it down is how someone in the car listening while you drive to help hunt it down or put it up on a lift

Or, if your ears can handle the noise use a mechanics stethoscope lol.
Re: Exhaust Rattle when cold
I had the car on a hoist and got someone to put it in gear and hold the brake and take it to about 1600 RPM. The noise is definitely coming from the flex pipe.
