i was wonder about putting a flow master muffler on an 04 aveo and i wanted to put a straight pipe on from after the flex pipe on, i was just wondering if there are any diagrams on the exhaust or can anyone tell me what pieces i need to run it out the back.
Just get a pipe bender, some pipe from home depot (or a store of your choice) take the old one off and bend/weld away to match... You might want to get some flanges though if you want it to come apart. And I would highly suggest at least one straight through resonator to keep the noise out of the car and out the back... :D
ok, my plan with the flanges is just to put them in the original locations, and should i just stick to the stock pipe size or go up in size.
and how much would a pipe bender run me.
Honestly, I have no idea how much it would run you. :| I just paid the exhaust shop to do mine. They were done in under 45 minutes if I remember correctly. The toughest part for me was deciding which muffler/tip/pipe diameter I wanted to go with. Once that was done - it went very quickly. 8)
With crush bends you want 2 1/4" or mandrel bends 2"...Quote:

That's not a bad idea if you have an access to a welding machine. I'd up to at least 2.25... 2" is what you already have there (according to the guys who did my exhaust).Quote:

other than a cone filter my engine is stock, are you saying that i should just stick to 2" pipe.
yup, 2" is good, but if you do some crazy mods, then you need it to be bigger
but for example, if you had vtec, then you would need a 6" tip, but you will be fine with 2"
so since they don't make the muffler in a 2" inlet would it be okay to put a 2" to 2.25" adapter on before the muffler.
yeah you will be fine, little things like that dont really matter on such a small engine
So what' you're saying if I'm going with 3" CAI and xiaogary's cat-delete header, one straight through resonator, straight through muffler, and 2.25" pipe I'm doing my car more harm than good on all stock internals? :shock: Because if everything goes well, God willing, I will be picking up xiaogary's header from the post office tomorrow (they missed me today trying to deliver it while I was picking up updated sway bar bushings at a dealer 40 miles away) and once that's installed - I will have pretty much what I described at the beginning of the post. All of it is already in except for the header. :shock: :?
Also, what would I need to do with cams and how much would that run me? :? Is it just for performance or would it increase MPG too if my driving habits stay moderate?
this is just a question for now, since I was planning on stopping after the header install, but now that you guys say something I may need to re-consider my set-up. Will I actually loose HP from all that? :shock:
If I were going to stop after the header (no cams), I would stay with 2" exhaust piping myself. It has nothing to do with being good or bad for the internals. It just has to do with where (what rpm) you make your power at.
A new cam will give you more peak horsepower. However, you will loose some low rpm power to gain it at higher rpms. It will also reduce your mpg. How much you gain/loose all depends on how aggressive of a cam you go with.
Doesnt Xiaogary make alot of performance parts for us? I know he makes something else besides headers.
this exactly, a way to think of this is all these mods slightly tweak where your power band curve sits with in the rpms. going too big in an area without matching other parts moves the rise of the curve away from 0. meaning you need to build rpm before getting stock hp, so that you can have more than stock. basically like turbo lag..Quote:

Go with a Flowmaster 60 series, they're specifically designed for 4cyl. engines. If you get a Flowmaster 40, it will sound like a cheap $40 fart can, in which case you might as well have bought one and saved yourself the money. The Flowmaster 60 series does come in a 2" inlet and outlet, I know, I have one sitting right here in front of me still in the box. 8) They're like $120. that muffler is not big enough to support vtec, why would anyone want that?
It's going on my car....when I get time. I'm swamped up to my eye-balls in work right now. Like I said, they're like $120 brand new, and you can even find them new on eBay.Quote:
