      Question genuine propeller sound

as the title reads, i've a propeller sound as i increase in speed in my 2004 aveo ls. am bringing this car back to life after sitting a coupla years. several rotating ass'ys. in the front end; was wondering what you think this might be. betting on wheel bearings, as the sound increases in frequency as speed increases. much as a propeller would as it speeds up.

If the sound changes when loading one side of the car(turning the steering wheel) while driving over 30mph would confirm bad wheel bearings. If it doesn’t change that doesn’t mean the bearings are good, they could be just THAT far gone that no sound change is possible.

thank you for your reply. i've tried this to no avail; i.e., no discernable change in loudness or pitch. am thinking cv and/or tranny problem.

If you raise the wheel off the ground and check for play, that might give you an answer. There should be no play in the bearings.

cv is more probable than transmission. The trannys in these vehicles are nearly bulletproof.

found the inner cv joint on drivers side torn and it appears that little or no lubricant is left inside. will investigate further and update. i have a doner car on the property w/this axle shaft intact; that is the plan right now.

so i'm back. decided to transplant the tranny, shafts, hubs, steering arms, and discs to the 2004. no more propeller sounds anymore. still don't have any stereo in the 2004, but will have to look into that. have the stereo model and id number so maybe i can do something with that. i know it worked before, but the battery was disconnected for some time, and it has no display now.
