I'm usually a Subaru guy but am replacing a bad motor in my friends 2005 Aveo. All was going smoothly but the torque converter came out with the engine. I thought I had it back in properly but when I reattached the engine, the torque converter was still far enough out that the bolts from the flexplate would hit the engine and would not turn.
Kicked myself for 10 minutes and took the engine back out. I just spent the last hour trying to get the torque converter properly seated. It slides right in on the first step. But the back has some sort of ring with two metal tabs that need to line up with the converter and it just doesn't seem to slide into place. I spin the TC, I push, lift, rotate, push some more. I keep waiting for a satisfying "thunk" but it still hasn't gone into place. HELP! What's the trick to this thing?
