HELP! Engine rattle on acceleration

I'm sure you've already tried this but have you done anything to make sure it's not just pre-det...like used a higher grade fuel?

another thing to check is the flex pipe. the ring on the end rusts off and hangs around the exhaust and rattles like a can full of rocks.

my guess would be the throw out bearing, or the timing belt tensioner.

if it is in the engine it would rattle just under more throttle, without the need to be moving. Does it? you say under acceleration, is that with load like driving? or just revving the engine? if it is on the engine, pull off the oil cap and see if you hear it more distinctively.

I have had the same problem for while now and tracked it down to the serpentine belt tensioner. I've replaced it twice now and the last one installed is now rattling. At just off idle you can see the belt fluttering. I really think its just poor design !! After replacing it each time its very quiet for a couple of months and then it starts all over again..I don't really have a solution to offer up to you other than to replace it...Good luck !!

If you have that kind of a tension issue, you might be able to track it down to a drag issue, either something else is wearing out, or your belt is too tight. I would personally for up a few mm in size and see if if goes away. Hard to find a belt by size now a days, but the part numbers used to be simply width by length.
