HELP!!! timing belt!
My wife and I were driving the other day and the car simply cut off power, no loud noises just dead, my wife didnt even noticed and asked why i was pulling over.
pulled it to oreilly and checked the codes and threw a couple sensor codes, so i figured id replace those sensors.when i opened it up i thought id check the timing belt, since they suck in aveos. from the cam pulley the belt was intact, but looking a little weak so i thought id replace it.
today i was doing the replacement and when i got down to the crank pulley i noticed the belt was NOT OK. the crank pulley had stripped off the teeth at the bottom of the belt.
If i had broken valves wouldnt there be more noise and obvious signs of engine damage?
Is my engine ok?
if it is, how can i now correctly align the timing marks, since the crank has spun independently from the cam pulleys? (there are teeth everywhere else on the belt, so i do not believe the cams spun independently from each other)

Tricky to say, I would run a compression test first

I'd suspect some bent valves because the pistons were freewheeling into the valves, which were fixed in place. You'll find out what the verdict is after the new belt has been installed. The bearings in one of the pulleys or the WP must have seized, so you'll need to replace that as well. Most of us who DIY this use the 4 piece kit and replace them all each time. Just position #1 to TDC compression, and align the marks.
