      Intake Q

      what is the diameter of the stock intake tubing...?

      i ask as i was planning on just sticking a length of aluminum intake pipe in that corrugated stock piping and puting a cone filter on the end. i figure this will be easier than using the GSR intake piping and having to ghetto up a MAF bracket on the cai pipe....

      can anyone help?

      ID is 2.5". Cuz you can usually find cheap cone filters with 3" ID coupling, you can use cheap 3" OD to 2.5" OD exhaust reducers to connect up the filter to the intake elbow, and it also works as a ghetto velocity stack (that's what I'm using at the moment).

      You mean make a hole for the IAT sensor? Aveo's don't have MAFs.

      oh, no MAF?

      IAT = intake ambient temperature?

      so one just needs to mount it in the intake tube?

      yeah, i just drilled a hole for the IAT and silconed it in there. but it really dosent seem like the IAT even does anything , you could leave the damn thing there hanging and the car still acts the same.

      Intake Air Temp... IAT in conjunction with the MAP sensors that these cars have (Manifold Absolute Pressure) (and not MAF mass air flow) allows the computer to calculate how much fuel inject. Cooler the temp, denser the air i.e. more air i.e. more fuel.
      Also, some cone filters have a hole in the base that the IAT can fit in. If it doesn't, you could always drill a hole there instead of on the intake tube.
      just for info, MAF-equipped cars need IATs too, but a lot of modern (2000+) cars that use MAFs have the IAT built in as part of the MAF itself. Supposedly, MAP-based cars are easier to work non-stock boost into.

      using the stock elbow/reducer saves a lot of time and effort. I have the GSR CAI coming out of the elbow and it works just the same.
