      Intake question

Replaced a leaky valve cover gasket, and discovered a cracked intake hose..the big one from air filter box to throttle body....also there is 02 sensor codes and throttle body position codes being thrown..my question is will the extra air cause the motor to adjust for extra air flow and perform outside its normal boundaries and thus throw codes?

A crack in the intake hose after the airflow meter will allow unmetered air into the system. This effectively leans out your mixture and can really confuse the computer.

Fix the cracked hose, clear the codes, and see if they come back. If they do, an O2 sensor (upstream, most likely) was probably damaged and needs replacement as well.

The computer assumes the throttle body position sensor is "wrong" because it is getting a different fuel/air charge in the cylinder than it had commanded.

The TB intake hose on my '05 had split open at some point, before I became aware that this was a systemic problem with Aveos. So mine ran with this condition for an unknown period of time, until I happened to find it during routine fluid checking. Mine had no codes, no change in performance or MPG - absolutley nothing which would point to any problem whatsoever. And after I fixed the hose, again no change. All of that happened 3 years ago, and as of today, no O2 sensor replacements have been necessary either. So I can say for certain that this broken hose will not always cause problems, and as always, YMMV.

yup, what ead15 said. Start with the intake, clear codes. If the codes come back, then try the O2 sensor, then the throttle body.

Just to expand a bit on replacing the O2 sensor, if you need to. Do yourself a favor and drop the cash to get an OEM sensor. Don't go through the dealership if you can help it, however

The "universal" splice-in types are garbage and mine threw a code immediately after I installed it then re-installed it after double checking the wiring.

I've never had any issues with the universal ones. I've put them on a few cars now. Its the same sensor, just minus the plug/connector.

It may be the same sensor, but the splice was the trouble for me. No matter how many times I tried to fix it, the car kept throwing an o2 resistance code, even when the resistance appeared within spec. I gave up and bought OEM

I always forget about rockauto, being as how I've never ordered from them
