K&N Apollo Universal Closed Air Intake Systems
thats a pretty good idea. being from k&n I bet its pretty expensive
$127.48 plus shipping from k&n's online store.
I want to see one installed.
looks like an oddly shaped air box with a vacuum vent hose attached to it
i agree, even though it is probably "better" than a vent hose, it costs a lot more, and would "lay" instead of mount..
i dont like the air box too much either, maybe its a heat shielded design or something.. but it looks big and bulky to mount.
Youtube has some video of it installed on different cars and it actually dosent look too bulky. I just ordered an SRI from chromeintakes but if something dosent work out with that i think im going to give this a shot.
Hmm, something I might look into.
my biggest concern with it is that the two biggest restrictions to a stock intake system are the baffles (boxes before the actual oem filter) and the tubes from the filter housing to throttle body. the K&N apollo does require removing the baffle but it still uses the stock tube. in general it would still be better than nothing but, the appolo would be best utilized with an sri.
am i looking at it backwards? (i only looked at the picture) isnt the super long flexible tube what goes to the throttle body?
the biggest restriction i found is the pipe in the fender well it has a Y at the resonator where the air goes past itself (how sound is eliminated) and it is only like 1 3/4" diameter. That diameter with the air flux for sound control would be the most restrictive spot in the system.
the apollo intake, the flex tube that comes with it attaches to the front (inlet side) of the filter allowing you to mount the opening (to an extent) where you want. the filter itself is inclosed and mounts to a stock intake tube. the resonator is the biggest restriction just removing that makes a world of difference on throttle response (it did on my 04 anyways), but removing the stock tube and replacing it with a CAI or SRi tube improves the air flow between the filter and t/b (less chance of turbulance). short and sweet, remove resonator equals "MORE" airflow, replace stock tube equals "BETTER" flow. Im sure you already know this info petrified, but it may be good f.y.i. for others that may come across this thread
So what you are saying is that if you replace your stock intake tube with an SRI intake tube, then mount the apollo kit, that in the end result you would end up with a pretty decent setup?
It would be a cold air intake at that point
for the cost of a decent SRi and the K&N apollo together, you might as well spend the money for a straight up CAI, the AEM CAI goes for $200. that would also depend on the year of your aveo too. I have heard that a CAI is not available for I think it was the 10 and 11s
However, if you already have an SRI, but want something more efficient, the apollo would be a good choice to add on
