My next project is to unbolt the factory muffler and put on a Glass Pack Cherry Bomb. The only thing I can’t find is a connecting pipe that will allow me to bold and unbolt as I wish.
Any ideas where I can pick up a connecter pipe?

your putting that in place of the factory muffler, so you need the over the axle piece that goes to the flange? right?
i would suggest cutting it off the current muffler. but you could probably make one out of a 120-140 degree bend and a two bolt exhaust flange?
Yah Rabbit I want to keep the factory if I ever need it. So I'd need a new axle piece with flange. Was hoping I could buy that section and not need to go to a muffler shop.Originally Posted by petrified.rabbit
yeah, i figured you wouldn't want to cut it. but to add a flange to any exhaust requires welding.
a 2 bolt flange for that diameter would work..
something like this:

that and a piece of pipe matched as close as possible to the factory over axle bend. welded together is what you need.
On mine I just cut the rear muffler off and cut out 2" or so of the pipe, and got a coupling with 2 exhaust clamps. After that I put the coupling on the stock pipe and just put a short straight piece of pipe on there in the muffler's place. This is just temporary btw, but if I ever want the old muffler back on I just loosen 1 clamp, slip the pipe off and put the muffler back on. Quick, easy and cheap. My new exhaust will be 2" straight back from the bottom of the cat connected to the manifold with no flex pipes or resonators right into a FlowMaster60 and piped out the driver's side in front of the rear tire. Should sound nice.

Your going to need a flex pipe or joint to allow for engine movement. Without it, you break the pipe or hangers off.Originally Posted by Wolfman AK907

I'm going to speak to the boys in our maintenance shop and see if they can bend and weld some pipe for me.
The boys don’t have a pipe bender for that size, so have to try something else.
Is the exost the same on the older Aveo 5? Cause if it is I just need to go to the wreckers and get a axel back from a 06 or something and cut it up to work.
It's the same. I've never had problems with breaking pipes or hangers so long as you use the rubber exhaust bushings on the hanger connectors...they allow a little flex.

I just got my pipes from the res back to keep the noise down in the cabin. Went 2 sizes larger on the pipe and for a flowmaster on it. the sound was truly surprising. Nice deep rumble nothing like i had thought it would be. Im very happy with it and stoked I dont sound like a civic wind up toy.
