      Re: Magnaflow?

Thanks a lot g0ast. The guy who recommended it said magnaflow was better because of their "straight through" design but I'm willing to sacrifice the 1/2 HP gain for a nicer sound. Also, if I were to just run it with the stock piping, would the sound be pretty much the same?

      Re: Magnaflow?

Honestly, unless you get a turbocharger/supercharger on your car, getting an extra 1/2 hp increase is kinda unimportant - it's not like you would notice something like that... And absolutely, for my car, all the piping in front of the muffler is stock, and it's custom bent behind it. There's no concern that it will change sound, unless you put the muffler so far forward that it kinda distorts or something (I don't know if it happens but you never know).

I figure the closer to the exhuast tip the muffler is, the richer the sound, as well as the bigger tip you can have, to give it a real performance look. I don't know any measurements or ratios but I figure for every 1 foot of piping behind the muffler, you need to reduce the tip diameter by 1/4", to keep the backpressure thing in check.

I can't remember the diameter of the stock piping, I think it might be 2", if you talk to the muffler shop they can figure it out and help you find the right sized 60 series (because it comes in 2" or 2.25" intake/outtake). The piping behind the muffler I think is either 2" or 2.25", but I do know my tip is 2.5", but if you manage to put it in the old muffler's spot there's no reason why you can't get a 3" or even 4" coming out of the back.

Oh BTW, before you put the flowmaster muffler in if you get it - YOU WILL NEED TO GET A HEAT SHIELD OF SOME KIND - FLOWMASTERS GET WICKED HOT! When I first put it in the tunnel under the car, I felt inside the car where the muffler was, and it got so hot that if I kept it there without protection it might have melted the plastic! I reccomend a metallic/fabric wrap or a mat (the mat if you put it in the tunnel, the wrap if you put it in the old muffler spot.

PS: Do a measurement test before you buy anything! Don't buy the muffler first without finding some way to picture the muffler's dimensions in it's final position, otherwise you might buy it and find out you might not get to put it where you want it, I found out the hard way (kinda), I definitely wanted it in the tunnel under the car, but I wasn't sure it wouldn't completely fit there, the dimensions were just big enough to fit, but it was a couple inches too tall, so it kinda sticks out from the bottom (you can see it in my youtube video).

      Re: Magnaflow?

I haven't read any posts so forgive me if It's irrelevant. I've used a couple magnaflow mufflers, many many magna hi-flow CATs, and have heard about a dozen magnaflow exausts. Best sounding exhausts I ever hear for any sort of reasonable price.
