My 06 has been misfiring / sputtering on acceleration

My '06 SVM just turned 100k. At 99k it suddenly developed this misfiring problem...

I did a routine throttle body cleanup and that helped a little..

So I checked the plugs and wires..

With the lights off in the garage I could clearly see that the #4 wire (long wire) is leaking voltage..
Which sux since they only have 40k on them.

I pulled the plugs and they looked ok but I found the gap had opened up to .050 on every one of them so I backed them back down to .039

That helped alot...the sputter is down to a random stumble. Mostly when under load, like accellerating from 40 in 4th gear. I'm guessing that glowing wire is the culprit.

New plugs and new wires will cost you about $25 plus shipping. Sounds like a cheap fix to me but it is your call.

Thanks man. I thought you'd agree..

As for spending more money on wires... I found mine have a limited lifetime warranty, so I'm going to take them back for an exchange.

Just an update, and a plug for Advanced auto parts..who did me kindly..

I couldnt find my receipt and none of the local stores had my warranty information on file, however they agreed that they were there brand of wires. They were out of stock, so I had to skip across town to another store to actually make the exchange.

No big deal... I had taken the engine cover off in there parking lot, and removed the wires, I reinstalled them..(I drew a little diagram on the last page of the owners manual of the firing order) and drove to the other store..

When I put them on I repositioned the leaky wire (the longest one) and the car was indeed smooth. To the point I felt like maybe I wouldn't go all the way to the other store for the replacement set, however I knew I should see no voltage leaking and there was still an intermittent stumble while holding steady at 40mph in 4th..

So I made it to the next store and made no hassle exchange..that was cool...
I installed the new wires in the parking lot and drove off...

all smiles!...problems solved... car accellerates super smooth and that new car feeling is back again. Amazing what a bad wire can do
