Has anyone ever tried boring the cylinders, installing performance pistons/rods, etc.?

lol, if you find anyone boring the cylinders or people even making aftermarket pistons or rods good luck. This isn't a performance engine.
actually they do make parts, depending on which engine you have.
most of the good things will be coming from over seas though.
it would be better to swap for displacement, the ecotec can be switched out for a 1.8 from a cruze for as little as $500. And its a "quick" 30 hp.
on what year?
2007 sedan. The cruze swap is interesting. I am really interested in using the 1.6 specifically though, because everyone with an Aveo would be able to do it.
yeah, not gonna happen. There is no performance market for the aveo.
Based on numerous and numerous posts back in the day. The aveo eETECII engine shares the vauxhall block and head. (while measurements and personal research are suggested) that means you can use those codes as a source as upgrades.
http://www.importperformanceparts.net has some stuff.

Geeez, many of the old Opel links I gathered last year have gone AWOL, but here is one - indicating that this little lump is very well known and raced just over the pond. What we have (Daewoo copy) is based on the old GM/Opel Vauxhall 1.6 lump, that are still raced today and in doing so they beat the crap out of the bottom ends, and they still come back for more. I don't have the links handy but I have seen many a X16 based engines in Formula 1 garb on a dyno spinning to the moon.

Any westerner with a mill, lots of money and lots of time could fabricate some parts, but you would never find much of a market here in the states, don't let that stop you though. Innovation is innovation, no matter what label is on the hood right? Im sure Ross or JE can still machine up a set of custom pistons for this application, and I have sourced a few cam grinders that will grind custom cams, and keep searching, you will find plenty of sources if you dig, I know I did last year, but most of the Opel love has faded for this platform, at least according to the posts on daewootech.com.
when i was researching this forum a lot i remember petrified rabbit mentioning decking the heads. i dont know if thats in the same category of mods in the theme of this post but i didnt know what it was so i asked my mechanic friend and he said it was doable.. i dont know about cost effective but i'd thought about it
For the same amount of money you will put into this slow, underpowered engine, you might as purchase an LS1 equipped, 1998-2002 Camaro or Trans Am; A 300hp (stock) car that can easily be bought for $5000. Swap in a new set of heads and put a nice lopey cam in there for $1500 (minus labor) and your looking at 400hp.
