      Need For Speed

Okay so I have seen couple of rebuilt engines on a chevy aveo and i was hoping if anyone could give me couple of ideas of rebuilding mine. I have a stock 1.6L 4 Cylinder 16v engine, Its a 2004 Chevy Aveo Base Sedan. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could give me any ideas on rebuilding my engine for speed and how to install a turbo kit.

There are several threads on turbo installs on here. This engine isn't a speed engine. It's a cheap economical engine. If you want speed look elsewhere because you can install a turbo on this and crank the boost and a v6 mustang will still murder it in a 1/4 mile. As for a turbo, you are gonna need a custom exhaust manifold, custom ic piping, a piggy back or standalone ecu with a custom dyno tune, custom oil and water lines, pick whatever turbo you wanna try to fab up, and a custom air intake.

If I had a first gen Id buy a complete ECOTEC ( 1.8 or 1.6) engine , harness n ECU. It bolts to your transmission ( 5 SPD ). Install, get it running, then get a CAI, headers, and buy a Trifecta tune or a Jet Chip and call it a day. This will put u at about 40-55 flywheel HP over your current setup and actually be reliable. Ive seen about a third of rebuilt performance 4 cylinders, smoke or blow before 15k miles. And I know for a fact the engine builder was on point, often ****ty tuning and half ass at home installs r to blame. This is as plug and play as aveo owners can get, not too pricey if done urself or with friends, and will be MUCH more reliable than a homebrew turbo and Im guessing the #s will be very close if u go with the 1.8 set up.

The problem fitting the 1.8 engine is that you will have to replace all the wiring into the fuse box inside the car. Very time consuming and can be a little costly if not done correctly. I have no electrical experience which is why I have not done the 1.8 cruze swap.

Agreed, do all the hard parts urself n have someone else wire it, in the long run it will be worth it. A stock block turbo will probably have less power than a tuned and bolt on powered ECOTEC and probably have reliability issues. Trust me I spent 10 grand in a day n spent 2 years cleaning up the mess, including the help of reputable speed shops

I think you'd be better off just getting a turbo car from the factory.
