      New Engine

      Hello everyone:
you know that aveo in Egypt has 1.5 SOHC engine and I want to replace the engine with other used one imported from USA. I have to choose between 1.6 E-Tech II 103 hp and 1.6 Ecotec 106 hp. So, which of them will be suitable for my 2007 aveo sedan.
      thanks.

      Hey drmagieed!

If you're going for a standard swap, maybe using the Ecotec would be more "OEM" replacement (is the standard engine, I think)

The "1.6 E-Tech II" was in 2004 - 2008 North American models. The "Ecotec" was in the 2009 - 2011's. This isn't my area of expertise, but I doubt either engine is a very simple swap. My guess is you'd need to replace computer, wiring, etc for both to work in your car. So if it's something you're willing to go through the hassle of doing, you might want to consider a 2.0L out of an Optra.

a few things here are going to hinder you. From what I have seen, most of the 8v engines (SOHC) are drive by cable, use very different electronics than even the earlier cable throttle US versions, and the 8v engines do not seem to use the same transmission family all the time, so the engine might not bolt up. (I think that was a 1.1? though, but check)

Based on your location, I would go with a better choice of engine than the standard aveo US version. I am not sure what exchange rate and shipping compares to europe, asia, australia, or even the rest of africa. But i would look into vauxhall, holden and opel engines for the "Same" difficulty in a swap, for better results. It might even cost you the same overall to get a vxr engine, versus the US aveo.

thank you all so much. I investigated the wiring and other problems which may make the swap of ecotec engine difficult. The car in egypt and in north america is the same in everything except the engine, ABS, multi-functions steering wheel, airbags. So, I will need the engine with its ECU only and everything will be ok. Thanks all of you again.

the other thing I will replace the same gear box to match the engine with its TCU. Both the engine and gear box will be taken from the same car.

with the gear box, you might want the axles, etc. Check the shift linkage to verify it is the same. Honestly if the aveo engine fits, that easily, the 1.8 ecotec from a cruze will fit, its 30 more hp and will run off the aveo ecu.. your options are very open.

the ecotec engine 1.6 L arrived from Minnesota and the life span of the engine as the digital odometer read is 188000 miles. How far this engine can work (How many miles) without servicing. What your advice, Swap or Not.
      Thanks all
