New owner of 2004 Aveo issues check engine light came on.

thanks man. ok i got a guy today that said he would resurface the head and install new gaskets and replace timing belt for 750. i asked about what if valves are bad and he said that it would be extra and he wouldnt know. now my thing is if cylinders 1 and 3 are low compression is there a high or low chance that valves could be bad?

oh and it was place i bought it from did that.

do not buy a head for this, and do not resurface it.

i can almost guarantee the valves are the issue. if not, it is the head gasket and it only needs resurfaced if warped. Either way, replacing valves and lapping or resurfacing the head. or both should be cheaper than buying a head. (depending on your machine shop).

but now your getting real prices.

are there any signs that would point to valves before its taking off?

ok heres deal the repair job is finished
the exhaust valves were badly burnt and had buy new ones he had the head resurfaced new head gasket and also he replaced thermostat as preventive maintaince and did timing belt. new coolant and oil change he used synthetic,
he remarked that the bushings in front sounded bad but i have awhile before i had to worry
total cost 958

thats much better than the dealers estimate, huh?

yea i am very happy and best part is ALL the work comes with a 6,000 mile or 6 month which comes first warranty for parts and labor. so if belt snaps and messes up valves he will redo job free of charge.
so now i have a nearly perfect 2004 aveo sedan base model for 4,600 including purchase and recent repair work. whats highest mileage so far before transmission issues? also i read in the car manual about hold button turns into 3 speed transmission, but is it only upshifting or do you have to downshift if you go slower like ie: your on road going 45 so you keep shifting till in drive then lets say you go on back road of 15mph do you have downshift to 1st or 2nd like in manual? and does this mode get worse mpg or doesnt affect it?

oh and guy i went to charges 65 a hour which aint bad.
