Yeah, I am planning on replacing it, I'm just lazy :?

please explain, as i do not know much about how the different sensors work.
First o2 sensor (in the exhaust manifold) is used by the ECU to determine how much fuel to use... so if there's a lot of o2 left in the exhaust, it knows it's running lean... if there's none, it's running rich... adjusts the amount of fuel being injected accordingly.Quote:

If the first one fails it falls back on a preset injection map, rather than "intelligently" injecting fuel.
If the second one fails, I believe it does the same thing.
so this preset map is adding more fuel then cus it doesnt really know what to do?
Yup just to be safe. That's why engines are a lot less efficient when one of the o2 sensors is out.Quote:

I went to Quartermaster Corps MOS/AIT Training in Va. Its a beautiful place.
Unfortunately this training informed us to replace any/all sensors (etc, etc, etc) if broken. (I guess its what you expect to hear when your job is spending Tax-payer's money on auto parts and MREs, but really its not a bad gig...)
It'd probably be better to just get the new one.....Is there any way to program an O2 sensor or the car's computer? If you could, maybe you could program the computer to try and take in more air and less fuel?
Sorry I'm not much help, but I hope you are able to trick and sensor and pass emissions! YAY! :)
