      Our standard ignition keys.

I'm trying to figure out if I need the transponder bypass box for a remote start, I talked to a local GM parts guy and he said since I don't have keyless entery (no power locks or power windows or factory alarm system) that I don't have a "chip" in my key... and shouldn't need the box, is this true?. If it's not I will just buy a key for $10.00 and then worry about getting it programmed... one dealership charges $53.00!.

Man oh man do I want remote start this winter.

Buy a blank key off ebay and try it. If anything, you will be out $10

Just talked to a guy at work about putting a remote start in for me and he said when he called the GM dealer about the transponder, he said that it was needed for the by-pass.

if its like a cavalier, all you need to do is pull the steering column cover, and see if there are two wires running to the lock cylinder. no wires, no chip.

Here is what u can do to to check if u have a factory alarm system or engine immobilizer. I spied this on Russian aveoclub forum. :P Just wrap the plastic part of ur key in a piece of aluminum foil and try starting ur car. If it wouldn't start u know what to do. :P

Tell me about it. It was already flurrying here last night.

We don't have a garage Makes for fun winter mornings scraping ice and brushing off snow.
