      P0315 error code 2011 Aveo

      "crank position variation not learned"

      Hello all,
I just picked up this car and it runs fine but then will run real rough at idle then stall. Sometimes it does this, sometimes not, but basically will do it on every trip out.
I see that the actual sensor is behind the engine, near the starter. Looks like a bear to remove.
Question...do I replace the sensor or take it to a shop and see if they can make it "learn" instead? Sounds like a calibration procedure to me. It does look like the computer was replaced in this car, and maybe they never went through those motions after replacing it.
Is it hard to replace the sensor? Does the starter have to come out to do so?
      Thanks!

      You have a few options.

A new crankshaft position sensor is about $35.

Taking your car in to have the relearn procedure done is going to be around $100. This was more an issue with the 1st gen Aveos. I've not heard of it being a problem on the 2nd gens.

Dang, I just paid 50 bucks for the one I just picked up...lol. Its an odd issue for sure. The car does it much less when its been driven for a while. Also, when accelerating from a dead stop the engine feels like it takes a while to build rpm's, like the timing isn't advancing. I have another aveo, 2009, and its pulls much better from a red light. I'll start with the sensor, then get have it relearn.
      Thanks for the info!
