I forget who it was, but I know that someone on here said he tracked his car with no muffler at all and didn't notice a bit of improvement. That right there is enough to keep me from sinking my money into a high-flow muffler. If no muffler at all isn't gonna help, I don't see a high-flow muffler helping. Then again, others say they do, so who knows.

Yeah, that means that the muffler isn't the most restrictive point in the exhuast system. Depends on the car. On my Elantra, the stock muffler is this HUGE boat and it's been shown on a dyno that just a muffler change on the stock exhaust frees a couple of hp.
If you get a catback, you'll probably need an aftermarket muffler (or usually they come with some sorta fart-can)

It could have been me. When I took my car to the strip (1/4 mile) I only had a modified airbox. I ran it with the muffler and without and there was no difference in time. Thing is, the ECU could not compensate for the extra flow so if I would have allowed time for the ECU to learn, then my times should have been faster. I then installed a flowmaster type muffler and the car was SUPER loud even with the resonators in place.

I would highly recommend against a Flowmaster. It might sound great on a V8 but not on our cars. I removed it after a week and went with a stock WRX muffler which gave me better top end and even got rid of the rattling in the engine at high RPMS.

Would you guys be interested in a Cat-Back exhaust system made specifically for the Aveo?? Or even a Header back system?

Also, would you prefer a name-brand High-flow Cat and muffler, or a high-quality "no name" race style? I know of how I can get compact versions of cats and mufflers that are not only street legal, but are nearly half-size and weight...meaning more power from lighter weight as well as hi-flow.

Just an Idea...sorry to go off on your thread....

my '95 GMC pickup I have a Gibson system, started with cat back supertruck system and quickly decided to replace the stock headers with Gibson too.

sounds awesome and I did notice a little performance as well.
