Follow up: Nothing to report since my last post. After around ~6K+ miles on the valve job/overhaul I have no complaints after chasing the initial codes. The last time I popped the hood was to change oil.
A few random lost photos to add - post pressure testing, and bench pics.
Bits for the head with new valves
The deck after surfacing
Head after pressure test and rinse
Mock cam assembly (no lifters)

Photo of my $25.00 valve spring tool designed for motorcycles. Works great on 16V heads! Perfect in fact.

Pay your machinist $80 an hour, or pay $25 bucks and do the valve R&R yourself. Just sayin.

Update: a year later and about 9K miles and 3 oil changes later, she is still running like a top. Tomorrow the roadkill LS will be sporting a new set of rolling stock with new 15" wheels and Dunlaps. Wooot! This is my second order attempt as my first choice was out of stock here in the states. So I went with a German make wheel, to keep with my 'euro' theme I hope they fit. Stay tuned for pics.
The crazy part; I spent more on rolling stock than I did on buying the car itself!

Doh, forgot all about the kitty! Tigger is doing great, a couple months ago he was down due to a sticker in his left rear paw, he had to tap out for a few days, but he came back to a full recovery. Back to doing what he does best, killing pesky farm mice and other varmints - when he is not helping me wrench on the cars.
hehe
