I don't know if anyone has dynoed the aveo before and after a CAI, but for argument's sake say you get 4 hp gain with the homemade CAI. You MIGHT, if you're lucky, get 10% increase with the AEM i.e. 4.4 hp gain. Woo...
true but the larger diameter = more CFMs = more top end hp.
Personally i think they both would to the same thing just fine. I would spend the money elsewhere. If you want colder intake air, get water/meth. You can but a basic kit for under $200

HP and torque are directly related. If you get more HP at top end, you get more torque at top end. HP = (Torque * Rpm)/ 5252.
Therefore at 5252 rpm, Torque = Horsepower. So if you want high horsepower at high rpm, you have to find a way to make the torque curve stay high at higher rpms.

Second, if doesn't matter how much more air you can feed the engine, if the exhaust isn't upgraded also. Backpressure will make exhaust gases come back in the cylinder when the valves overlap.

Third, we don't even know for sure if the intake and the exhaust are restrictive. The most restrictive parts of an exhaust are first, the cat, then the muffler and lastly the pipe diameter and bends. I'm sure the muffler is pretty restrictive, being pretty small, yet heavy, but the cat doesn't look too bad. I haven't seen any one measure backpressure yet. I will do that this summer.

Forth, all of you who think they'll get more power with chips (resistors), don't. The engine regulates fuel by analyzing the output from the oxygen sensors. The only way to feed the engine more fuel with a resistor on the IAT would be to disconnect the oxygen sensors. If you get a check engine light with the resistor in, it means your ECU is detecting that the IAT or the oxygen sensors have gone way bad because their outputs don't match one another, that is if the resistor on the IAT sensor changes the voltage too much.

Now I don't mean to bash anyone, I've been doing a lot of reading recently about fuel management, intakes and exhaust, from a reputable source. I now have a much better understanding of what makes a modern car tick and why it is now becoming so hard to make changes that'll make more power. I just want to share my findings. I'll correct anything you guys say, but don't take it bad, it's good information for anyone wanting to make more power.

i would like to say that the resistor trick does work-for about 2 minutes and then like u said, the ecu figures it out and goes back to doin what it does. u just wasted 10 minutes and 30$ for a piece of ****. i tried it, i wont lie, and now when i reflect on it, it was the stupidest thing to do lol.

lol well it wasn't stupid. You tried and it failed, you accomplished to learn that resistor mods are worthless and told everyone so they wouldn't waste the money on it. For that, we should thank you.

Ask Y2Daniel about his resistor box and the troubles he is having now because of it...

As far as the intake, an intake is an intake. if you are currently stock, any intake will show a gain, but going from a homemade to a namebrand won't allot enough to warrant payment $140 for an intake....

I was on the phone with ol' buddy danny when he hooked it up the first time... He was like "I feel the power! Wait CEL! Wait engine died!"
