Quick air filter question
Hi guys this probably sounds like a dumb question but im still new to my aveo. Im planning to install a air filter like the pic below and was just wondering if anyone had any issues with it example the service light or somthing flashing since it may detect that the stock air filter is not there. My friend who is installing it for me said that he did one for a subaru wrx and when the air filter was changed to one of these, the service light kept poping up. thought il ask before i do anything. Thanks guys
Re: Quick air filter question
Do you have the first or second gen engine? (E-TEC or ECOTEC)? With the second gen, as per rabbit, it may not be a good idea to run a filter that needs to be oiled (I don't know if this one does or not, like K&N one does) because it can mess with the MAF sensor if the oil gets on it. I'm using one like this on my first gen motor with no problems whatsoever. No engine light. The only thing I suggest is get a CAI piping to have some noticeable gains... Just having a filter that passes more air but that's drawn from the hot engine bay won't give you much gains at all. Even as restrictive as the stock piping is, it draws it's air from the fender area... Keeping the CAI filter in that area (cold air with less restrictions) is the best route to go.
Re: Quick air filter question
100% correct, even with the SRI you can lose power from the heat, so get the CAI
if you have a 2nd gen then its going to be a little more work
Re: Quick air filter question
Thanks guys for the replies but yeh i guess you have a point. My car has an ecotec engine n the filter i was planning to install was just sitting in my cousins garage so i thought il make the most of it. After reading i think i shall just not be lazy and go for a CAI since people suggect here is a better alternative way to go. Cheers guys
Re: Quick air filter question
if you just had the filter then you need the pipe, but they only sell in kits, people have stuck the filter on the end of the intake tube, but it makes no since, i would not suggest it, but you will be extremly happy with a CAI if you choose to buy one
