      Removing stock muffler.

      I have decided to take off the stock muffler. it is starting to rust and I would like a little less restriction and sound. ive looked under the car a few times and it doesnt look difficult. just wondering before i do it if i am going to run into any problems removing it? i remember seeing a thread already discussing this topic, but i couldn't find it. therefore, I apologize if i am being redundant. im a visual guy, so any pictures from you guy who just went straight pipe like i plan to would be cool. or just a quick how-to. Thanks yall.

      I had mine cut about at the middle of the car underneath and then come out the driver's side at an angle. I didn't watch them remove the stock muffler and pipes though, so I don't know if there were any issues.

      Here's a pic for reference:


      As an added bonus, I found that the pipe coming out the side REALLY improves my cornering speeds/abilities as it heats up that driver's side rear tire that much quicker. j/k lol

      Haha, thanks RoRo. Your car looks great, very clean. I don't know if I will go the side-exit route. but thanks a bunch for the help. Anyone else who as done the removal and has pictures or insight I would appreciate it.

      it's easy, only two nuts to remove and the muffler is free. just look in front of the driver side rear wheel... You'll see what I'm talking about... Also get a shop to put a straight pipe or performance muffler on. You wouldn't want to gas yourself up...

      Either way you go, you should notice some slight increase in performance once you get rid of that HUGE stock muffler. I just went the side exit route because I plan on adding side skirts at some point and I want the exhaust tip(s) coming out of them.

      Ive noticed the two bolts, but what about the hangers? Do i need to do anything to them or will it just come right off after the two bolts? Thanks for the advice Ontarian. And RoRo, good luck with the side skirts.

      they either slip off, or unbolt from the rail.

      They just slip off. They are pretty tight but will come off.

      I'm looking to do something similar, I was thinking I could pull the muffler off, cut off the flange and the hangers, have my brother help me weld them to a new universal muffler and put it back on similarly to how it came off.

      My major issue is- what muffler do I buy????

      I want the slight performance improvement, but I don't want a crazy loud exhaust. I would also consider modifying some of the cat-back like after the flex pipe section, but not right away.

      I really wanna know what puffers people use and how loud/ what performance they get from them.

Size:  314.9 KB]honest, I just straight piped mind. I cut the flange off another exhaust and rigged up a hanger for it. Everyone tells me it sounds really good.
