hey i dont no if i did this right :S.. i just bought a replacement air filter at Canadian tire, i took out the old one (just the box thing) and changed it for the cone shaped filter..??? i no they sell the whole kits on ebay i was going to buy it but i bought this instead...

I am not quite sure what you're asking...? So you removed the airbox and filter and in it's place you installed just a conical filter?
If so, I cannot say if you definitely did it wrong, but replacing the whole airbox assembly with just a filter may ultimately be worse airflow. If it's a cheap filter there could be poor airflow and having the filter close to the engine (if I have understood you correctly) would not really bring cold air in - you would want to be more in the fender. Additionally, you could possibly void your warranty since you have a '10 and be susceptible to hydrolock if you drive through substantial puddles. Those whole kits (click here) go from the throttle body into the fender.
If you can get access to a Scan Gauge I'd run some numbers see how well the car is breathing before leaving that set up on.

You are on a good start, but if you removed just the air box then you could get into more problems. The air tube from the air box to the throttle body is rubber. Unless you installed a plastic extender that fits the inside diameter of the intake tube and attached the air filter to the rest of the plastic extender, you will have gaps which will cause problems. So clamping an air filter cone to the rubber tube will most likely fall off when driving.
Also the air cone will be sucking up hot air, very hot air. When I installed something similar, which is called a short arm intake system, the temperature difference to a cold air intake system was as much as 10 degrees Celsius. I would suggest getting a cold air intake system for the Aveo. They do make them and sell them on eBay. It will require you to remove the temperature sensor which glued onto the rubber intake tube. It will also require you to take out a large box that sits in front of the wheel well and is that black object that protrudes from the circular hole you see when you pull out the original air box.

Or, if you want to remain cheap, have a muffler shop bend a short piece of 2.5" (I think) pipe for you to fit into the hole where the factory box got it's air, and hang your filter from that inside the fender. This is the route I will be taking.
If you have a 3" Air filter, they should be able to flange it to 3 inches for you. Or you can buy a flange somewhere and do it yourself.
