umm i thought brian tried this a while ago and got nothing out of it so he sold it to his brother.....now does this combat the ecu advancing the spark when you adjust the fuel? if not i dont see how it can be helpful for FI....

Hp you will gain with a SAFC II on a stock engine w/o forced induction= 0HP

Thats right folks it been done. no gain at all. It will only help you trim or adjust fuel levels if you are boosting. You will not gain 1 HP from this on a N/A engine.

In theory it can work once you install some headers/intake/exhaust. A dyno and wideband along with a knock sensor would be needed to test this though.

As for using with a turbo, I tried setting up my e-manage the same as an SAFC which only modifies the MAP settings and it ran 'better' with some tuning up until 6psi where it would detonate. Turns out by modifying the MAF sensor, I was also modifying the timing. Advancing it at the same time as adding more fuel which is where the timing needed to be retarded. setting the MAF back to zero and only adding fuel through the injector pulse width modification worked much better. By retarding timing in the upper boost range, I was able to safely run 8psi but ran out of fuel as my injectors would go to 100%. Eventually, larger injectors and tricking the MAP to think the car had 33% less air than it actually did made it run really good. I tuned past that up to 17psi which is where more boost no longer would get me hp, but that's past the scope of this post.

Congrats on trying the SAFC. Even those of us who don't expect much results, would love to see the results posted. Dyno graph with air/fuel ratio please.

A good way to tune is the only thing stopping me. Have everything else.

so subachad, are you running a turbo right now? if so what are you tuning with, i know you were getting rid of the e manage.

also brian, you said the safc will not yield any HP on NA, but it would with turbo, why isent anyone trying this?

I was referring to my Impreza which started out with 110hp 1.8L engine, and then boosted. By the time the e-manage went on I had a 2.2L engine with the turbo. When I sold the car, it had a 2.0L engine actually built for boost.

I won't be going so far with the Aveo, basic intake headers exhaust springs wheels that's about it. I'll either be selling the Aveo and getting an Rx-8 or keeping the Aveo and getting a 2nd gen rx7

sweet man, go with the FD, the rx8 is cool, but FD has such a bigger aftermarket. just cause it has been out for a while. Either way great choice. i love rotory, i had a FC 89 gxl. Great drift car, and the power is freaking awsome. now i am driving a 240, and IMO it is very well balanced, but i miss rotory power.
      good luck

2nd gen has style, though... 3rd gen has those ugly ass Taurus tail lights...
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far the wall moves after you hit it.
