Hi all, its not easy to install. If not installed by professional, gear shifting will be harder (not not very smooth).

i took my stock shifter off to cut the knob off and put a new one on, its not hard at all takes 5 min to take off and reinstall.

you guys could always try to shortan your stock shifter, i have done that on my buddies Optra/Forenza and he likes it so far, we actualy switched shifters for a day, and its nice.
Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, rather than drive a fast car slow!

a shorter handle doesnt mean it a shorter shifter..

the shifter design is very similar to new vw shifters, so it should not be hard to install at all. unclip the two shift cables, and use a gear puller to remove the shifter ( the end of the shaft may have a circlip, maybe a nut, haven't looked) slide the new one in place, with the same direction, and clip the shifter ends back on..

      Re: short shifter help

a shorter shifter shaft in the aveo's case deff does mean a shorter shift...i just chut my shaft down about 6 inches and damn its way shorter and the shifting is smooth...deff a easy and good upgrade...did i mention its free? all that u need is a pot full of boiling water and a new zip-tie to put on the boot.....to disconect the shaft there is a pin connected to a clip all the way at the bottom of the shaft...un clip it by pulling the C-clip towards the drivers door and then u can pull the pin out...boil the knob and slide it off....cut down the shaft and reasemble...WARNING YOU WILL BE DELETING THE REVERSE PULL UP MECHANISM SO KNOW THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO FEEL IT INTO FIRST GEAR...i have no problem because i drive my car 6 out of 24 hours everyday so i know my car front and back....deff a cool mod
