Short Shifter Interest?
I am going to be setting up my tools to make myself a short shifter.
I haven't started yet, but it will be a modified, or refabricated from a stock shifter piece.
I am gauging interest on who else would like a short shifter before I start.
It will be designed to be as strong or strong the the OEM shifter. So no fear of it breaking.
Price will be $100 shipped in the 48.
I can post more details when i do mine.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
after you get yours done and pictures i may be interested. i want you to test it though. haha
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
I am definently intersted. But I do not live in the 48. After you build yours and run it for a bit I'm sure I could compensate you for the added shipping costs. Let's see how it turns out.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
just so there is some interest, it will let me make sure my rig is a good setup to make more than one.
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
count me in, any idea of a time frame? money is tight till after vacation.
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
there is an extreme back order on the shift linkage part from the parts distributor. they said that mean it could be anywhere from within the week to 6 weeks. I am going to order one, to do mine. take pictures, etc.
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
I'd be down for one also. Are you doing just the linkage?
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
i will be making the same arm you would get if you ordered the short shift kit from another country. The price of those shifters with shipping price comes out to @ $150-300 us, if you can even find them.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?

ordering shifters monday.
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
once you order the shifters are you going to make the prototype then and after that we can buy them from you?
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
it will take me a weekend to figure out the changes need, but i am ordering shifters, so i will have to ready.
i am also thinking of doing this on an exchange basis. to make it faster, cheaper. what do you guys think?

if you could offer both that would work out good, cause im sure some people cant go without their cars for 3-10 days for shipping and such and also would eventually want to return the car to stock for resale?
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
what i was thinking:
Offer the current arm in my car (after i swap in the prototype) as a finished modified/rebuilt part with a core charge, the full $100, ready to ship. When someone buys it, they can then put it on and send me back their old one, once i receive their old one in reusable condition, i will refund them $40. I will then rebuild that one, and convert it to a short shifter, and sell it to the next person interested.
if anyone does not want a rebuilt part, then i will offer them the new modified shifter for the full $100 with no refund.
looking at my shifter and the schematics, the shifter arm is not a wearable item, so it will not be "inferior" or a "scrap" part that you will get. But obviously, if the arm is badly bent or damaged to where i cannot use it, i can not refund the money. But the odds of getting a damaged part is slim.
the only problem with this idea is if people want it right away, and i do not have one ready, they will need to wait for either a return of a used one, or for the dealer to order one, depending on which shifter the chose.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
well lets get this on the road cause i have to leave for arkansas by the 30th and i want this! :-P
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
I'm down for one for sure. I'd do them one at a time, that way your not left hanging and out of pocket.
I'm second in line, tidus10 seams to need one more than I do
Post pics when you get it sorted.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
parts are ordered. so now i just have to wait to receive them.

ever notice that if you buy something from china on ebay the shipping is like $5 but yet if you but from someone in cali its like $11 to ship it to the east coast?
 vent

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
if I buy something on ebay from the states, they usually charge me about 5x what the shipping costs.
bought some lights for the dash, was charged over 10$ for shipping, got it here it was like 1.25$...
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
i hate dealing with other peoples shipping, i personally have a fedex international account.
I can send things dirt cheap, i sent a back seat(both halves) to washington for $50, i shipped a rad support from boston to me in pittsburgh for $32. But when i buy stuff its like $25 bucks for anything off ebay (because ebay doesn't charge into the % of the shipping cost only the sale price). But if fedex isnt cheap enough i through stuff into flat rate boxes..
it should arrive soon? i hope...

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
i am probably in for the shifter, but i cant go without mine even a day so i'll be one of your xchangers lol. My exp level is such that i'll need some pics too if possible :-p
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
i will try to include instructions with it, but i never remember to do things like that when i am actually working on the car..

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
write it on your hand with a pen so you see it all the time

Sorry tidus, couldn't control the timing. It could be waiting for you when you get back though..
And i can ship to canada no problem. I would need a full address to get a shipping idea.

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
Maybe this should be a new thread... but what about the slop? Could you come up with something to improve overall shifter feel? Different bushings or something?
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
i dont mind discussing it in this thread.
the design of the linkage would allow me to make that section sturdy. based on the design however most of the slop comes from the joint at the input shaft and in the shifter itself.
this shorter throw does remedy a good amount of the slop though. not enough to advertise that. but the looseness while in gear has shrunk considerably.
to make the joint in the input shaft stronger, i would say drill out the pins and install a cnc aluminum inner joint. it is currently expanded plastic. I have an extra one i can look into that.

You are saying the joint at the shifter, not anywhere in the linkage or where it hooks to the transmission?
-
Re: Short Shifter Interest?
the plastic "ball" thing at the 90* at the bottom of the shifter in the car.. and the joint at the input shaft of the tranny both allow a good amount of play.
the lever i have works well, but if the plastic cups wear, i can see additional play building. But the pivot of the arm has room for improvement, i would say machine the arm to pt a groove in there, and then replace the two plastic bushings, with metal ball/needle bearings with the correct dimensions, but also to tap the top hole for the clip rod that holes it in, and put a better piece in there that threads into the top..

Re: Short Shifter Interest?
two modified arms sitting here ready to ship.

is there any pictures to go with this?
