So far, I think i know what way im gonna go.

Turbo. boost it to about 190hp, and 190ft/lb.

Everyone on daewootech told me I can do that. There is a corsa with (use to be) 100% stock engine (same as ours). and he ran that much on boost for a LONG time, until the poor fuel map caused the car to run lean and blew a piston.

So i plan on boosting to about 190hp, and daewoomofo on daewoo tech said he'll help me install some stuff, so i asked him to help me install some 8.5:1 compression ratio pistons.

      I'm excited!

9.5 compression ratio is not really "high compression". If you are talking about NA setups, I would consider it fairly low compression. For turbo, I would say its about middle territory. I've had my stock motor boosted and daily driven for 11 months now without blowing anything up. A big part of that is the tuning of course. Just trying to say 9.5 CR is perfectly reasonable for boost.

Yeah, I may stick with the stock pistons, and maybe get lower CR later.

I want to get the turbo done, but my car will be out of comission for about 4 weeks. So id have to maybe borrow my mothers car to get to work (not a big deal cause i work third), but we'll see.

does anyone know if the Forenza manual transmission is a direct swap?
If i want bigger HP and ft/lbs, im gonna need to do something about the tranny.

for the automatic owners, this is where its better.... your transmission is rated at 200 ft/lbs. the manual is rated at a ****ty 160 ft./lbs.

ah yes but this where and why the manual trans will always beat a car (if driven correctly) with an automatic if the two are of the same hp and tq or the auto having more. you lose a lot of power through an automatic i.e. shift lag, i have heard of cases where up to 30% of your engines power and efficiency (spelling?) are robbed thru the tranny.

and another thing (this is my opinion) the manual is so much more fun to drive. altho somedays i do wish i had an auto.

Yes you are right, alot of power can be lost thru an auto trans, and most of that lost power will transform into heat, requiring tranny fluid coolers.

Have to agree with your 2nd point too, manual is just more fun.

      i didnt know that.

so thte manual looses a lot less power... if you shift right?

does anyone know the difficulty of swapping transmissions? like do you have to take the engine out or anything rediculous?

right the power is more direct and you control the shift points and reduce shift lag-big downfall to auto transmissions.

so to just reinforce what i said, if both our cars were stock and we raced and i didnt mess up on the shifts, my car would smoke urs. i aint puttin your car down just tryin to make an example u can easily relate to. and thats the catch with manuals, u have to know ur car i.e. where to shift on ur rpm band, how to slam into the next gear without droppin ur trans or grindin out. the manual is more difficult to drive (obviously) but the benefits are def. worth it.

      ah my senseless ramblings lol.

Yes. The manual transmission directly couples your engine to your wheels when you are in gear and the clutch is released. With autos, there is always slippage and wasted power turned into heat inside the torque convertor.

Are you talking about swapping an auto trans out for a manual? Or swapping out a D16 for a D20?
