      Stuck waterpump

Has anyone ever not been able to get the waterpump out of the block? I can’t even get it to turn. I’ve been beating on it with a hammer and a big punch and it still won’t turn. My 3,foot pry bar won’t budge it either.

Once you have all the mounting bolts out, it may take some persuading. Whacking at it from only one direction probably won’t do anything. If you don’t have the proper water pump tool, try using large channel lock pliers to rotate the pump while pulling it out.

I’ve tried turning it with the waterpump tool. It just tries to round off. I put a 24” crescent wrench on it and it still didn’t turn. I’ve been hitting in both directions and nothing.

At this point, I’d probably try some heat (torch) on the body of the pump to hopefully help break it free from the block. Be careful with aluminum. I assume you’re trying to replace the pump.

I’m not worried about the pump. I have a new one. I just need this old out so I can finish this two hour job that’s been going on for 3 days now.

Update....finally got the old waterpump out. I tried using my porta power to get it out but all that did was pull the pulley off. Last resort was the torch. I had to heat it up so much that the aluminum started to melt. Then I used a big punch and a 1 lb hammer to get it to turn a little.
