The advantage to running synthetis and top shelf filters is the ability to extend your oil change interval (OCI). You could go from changing your oil every 3k to 5k miles to 10k or 15k depending on what oil you buy and the quality of the filter you are using.

Oil sample testing through a company such as Blackstone Labs will tell you when you need to change your oil. It is possible to change oil ONCE a year instead of every three months while driving the same miles.

Never run synthetic during break in unless it came with synthetic. Best bet is to change over at 6k miles. Im running royal purple 5w30. Also, if you have over 30k, stick with normal oil, synthetic can progress wear on your engine if it is used to normal oil.

The owners manual has break in as 500 miles. With a new car I always like to change oil early - at least by the end of break-in. I figure this is when the little metal chips tend to come loose - and I want them out of there - along with the oil. I just put Mobile1 in at 450 miles. I'll post if I see any problems.

You are using the Mobil 1 full synthetic? I've heard alot of good things about that but I've always used Valvoline, so I was thinking about using the SynPower full synthetic they have when the time comes. Are you just using a typical ACDelco filter then?

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic in my Harley (or that's what the dealer says Harley's synthetic oil really is)

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic in my Harley (or that's what the dealer says Harley's synthetic oil really is) and I love it, the motor runs smoother, cooler, and it's universal for all my reservoirs.

I use the Synpower full synthetic in my Aveo, seems ok..no issues yet...

i ran my car on castrol syntec 5w40 since it had 1200 km (about 600 miles?) only one oil change done for now at 12000 km and no problems at all, only a smoother and quiet idle.
